How to share files and folders using the Proton Drive mobile apps
Proton Drive mobile apps let you conveniently and securely share your files and folders from your iPhone/iPad or Android phone or tablet.
This article explains how to create, copy, and share a link to your file or folder. It also shows you how to set a password or expiration date for extra protection and how to stop sharing a file or folder.
First download and open Proton Drive
- Go to your device’s app store and search for Proton Drive.
- Install the app and open it to see your main Proton Drive files screen.
- You can always return to this screen by selecting Files at the bottom of your screen or My files from your settings menu (☰).
iPhone or iPad (iOS/iPadOS)
Create a link to a file or folder
- Tap the horizontal three dots next to the file or folder you’d like to share.
- Select Share via link.
- A link will be created for your file or folder that can be copied and shared.
- On the main files screen, a small link icon will appear next to the item. (Only in list view.)
- All items with links can be viewed on the shared screen, accessed by tapping Shared at the bottom of your files screen.

Copy and share a link
- To copy or share a link that has already been created, tap the horizontal three dots next to the file or folder.
- Select Sharing options.
- Copy link to save, use, or share it anywhere.
- Or you can Share it via your installed apps.
Set a password
- Tap the horizontal there dots next to the file or folder.
- Select Share via link or Sharing options.
- Tap inside the Password protection field and enter a password.
- Tap Save at the top right to set the password.
- Anyone who wants to access your file or folder will need both the link and the password.

Set an expiration date
- Tap the three horizontal dots next to the file or folder.
- Select Share via link or Sharing options.
- Tap inside the Expiration date field to toggle on the expiration date setting.
- Tap on the date to pop up a calendar and choose your preferred expiration date — up to 90 days in the future. Tap on the date again to close the calendar.
- Tap Save to set the expiration date.
Stop sharing
- Tap the horizontal three dots next to the file or folder.
- Select Share via link or Sharing options.
- Select Stop sharing and confirm the action.
Android
Create a link to a file or folder
- Tap the vertical three dots next to the file or folder you want to share.
- Select Get link.
- A link will be created for your file or folder that can be copied and shared.
- On the main files screen, a small link icon will appear next to or under the item.
- All items with links can be viewed on the shared screen, accessed by tapping Shared at the bottom of your files screen.

Copy and share a link
- Tap the vertical three dots next to the file or folder.
- Select Copy link and share your link anywhere.
- To share the link via your installed apps, select Manage link instead, then Share link.
Set a password
- Tap the vertical three dots next to the file or folder.
- Select Get link or Manage link.
- Tap inside the Password protection field and enter a password.
- Tap Save at the top right to set the password.
- Now anyone who wants to access your file or folder will need both the link and the password.

Set an expiration date
- Tap the vertical three dots next to the file or folder.
- Select Get link or Manage link.
- Tap inside the Expiration date field to pop up a calendar.
- Choose your preferred expiration date — up to 90 days in the future. Tap OK to select.
- Tap Save to set the expiration date.
Stop sharing a link
- Tap the vertical three dots next to a shared file or folder.
- Select Stop sharing and confirm the action.
- You can also Stop sharing from the Manage link screen.
